“Can I get that on the fly please?”
I hear this a lot at work. Things just can’t come fast enough some times. All that practice of getting food on the table in a flash can apply to home too. I made these turkey burgers for my hunny bunny (he’d kill me if he saw that, but he never reads my posts anyway) and myself in about 20 minutes…from start to finish. Part of the trick is to have a well stocked freezer, fridge and pantry. That way anything you need for a quick meal is already in your home. We buy our meat in bulk then portion them into individual or 2 portion packs. We freeze our ground meat flat in freezer bags, easy for storage and easy to thaw. I’m only home a few nights a week for dinner so having meat portioned in individual portions also makes it easy for my hunny bunny (it must be the Valentine’s Day hangover, I don’t actually call him that) to make dinner with out thinking or going to McDicks.
I love making burgers from scratch. My mom taught me the basics to burger making: ground meat, an egg for binding, some breadcrumbs also for binding, Worcestershire sauce (a MUST have in any ground meat recipe), onion, garlic and your favourite spices. Yah you could just use ground meat…or you could spice it up and make it amazing. I don’t know about you, but if I’m going to eat something, I’d rather it be amazing than sub par.
Quick Turkey Burgers
Makes 2
8 oz ground turkey
2 green onion stalks, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
a few dashes worchestershire sauce
1 tablespoon Sriracha chili sauce
salt & pepper
2 slices jalapeno Monterrey Jack cheese
1/4 cup bread crumbs (I didn’t use an egg because it was only 8 oz of meat. If I was making 4 or more burgers I would have added an egg)
In a bowl mix all of the ingredients. Make 2 patties and cook them in a frying pan over medium with a drizzle of olive oil. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side. While the patties are cooking get your bun and side ready. I love using whole wheat thin buns. I like my bun to patty ratio to be heavier on the patty side. Plus they’re low cal for those of us watching our bikini bods. For our side I just cut up some fresh veggies from our local farmers market and dip. Simple and quick. Cheese melting tip: put a little bit of water in the pan and cover. The cheese will melt like you’ve never seen it before, trust me.
Cheers!
