Wow. Today started out so crappy. My Mango kitty kept me up all night by scratching the windows, she’s such a bitch sometimes. I was so annoyed at her that I took her super cute picture off the background of my phone and replaced it with a picture of my super cute niece instead. That’s how you know I was mad.
Work was work, then dinner was dinner. But what really made my day finish on a high note was ordering off of eBay my new Holga 120n camera!
I’ve already posted on twitter and facebook about it so you know I MUST be excited. It’s a toy camera originally made in Hong Kong in 1982. You can find the full history on the camera here. It’s known for it’s light flares and imperfections which is exactly what I love about the photos it produces. The photos have a retro feel to them as well. I can’t wait to get mine and start shooting away! I found it for a great price on eBay, it should be here within 10 days…let the countdown begin!
I’ve had numerous point and shoot cameras over the years, but my favourite is still my Canon manual camera that was passed down from my parents. I’m pretty sure it’s older than I am. My parents took pictures of my sister and myself growing up since we were babies with it. Over 25 years later and it is still taking beautiful pictures. I recently took it on a trip to Sweden and Amsterdam to photograph my brief travels. Nothing beats that anxious and giddy feeling when you drop off some rolls of film. The week it takes to process seems like a life time and when it’s finally time to pick them up you can’t help but feel like a kid again. There is something to say for manual cameras when you have to wait to see how the pictures turned out instead of seeing them the second after you take it.
Here are just a couple pictures from my trip taken on my old school Canon.
Here are some pictures taken with the Holga camera (I did not take these photos). You can view the full galleries here.
Expect to see some pictures from my Holga camera soon!
