I’ve been collecting all sorts of glass jars and candle holders recently, stocking up for an unofficial and unannounced event in the fall. I had 2 used up 3 wick Bath & Body Works candles which are perfect for DIY projects like this. I decided to create a couple bringing the outdoors in themed candle holders. 1 with a peacock feather and the other with small brown feathers and brown leather string.
1. Organize yourself: 2 empty & clean B&BW candles, assorted feathers, scissors, paint brush and Mod Podge.
2. Paint a layer of Mod Podge where you want to put the feathers. For the peacock one I placed the feather down and then added the loose long feathers around it to make it seem fuller. For the brown feathered one I only put Mod Podge on the bottom 1/3 of the holder and then lined vertically the feathers around the whole candle holder.
3. Paint another layer of Mod Podge over top of the peacock feather and around the entire outside of the candle holder. I didn’t put Mod Podge over the brown one so that the feathers are still fluffy.
For the brown feather one I wrapped leather string around it about 7-8 times and then tied it and tucked the ends into the straps.
4. When the Mod Podge dries it gives it a really great texture that plays well with the candle when lit. Put your favorite scented candle inside, light and enjoy your new bringing the outdoors in candle holder.
