Every year for Christmas I make something for all the lovely ladies in my life. Earlier in the month I saw this cute birds nest DYI on http://craftgawker.com/.
Here is the tutorial for making them: http://www.sarahortega.com/2011/05/diy-bird-nest-necklace.html.
I just used what I had on hand in my craft box. Some wooden beads for the eggs, some small beads to add into the nest, thin wire (the thin wire turned out really dainty and feminine!) and some feathers for my own special touch on them. It’s like when I use a recipe for dinner, I can’t just follow it completely…
The small beads on the 4 in the bottom photo (below) came from an old friendship bracelet made by one of my lovely girlfriends way back in the day in high school. I thought it was a neat little touch for the Q.E. ladies. Wire the small beads (I used 8-9 but you can add as many as you want) on first, then secure the 3 beads for the eggs. Do 4-5 rotations with the wire, then add the first bead. After each rotation add another bead so it’s spread out on different wires.
The orange feather was found by my twin from anotha motha and fatha so I added it onto hers. After making the nest I put a drop of super glue on the end of the feather just to hold it in place on the back of the nest. I cut out a circle out of fabric the same size as the nest and super glued it to the back of the nest, covering the end of the feather.
Get creative at Christmas. Something from the heart is always the best gift.
